Summer Time Switch Memo
To all our valued customers, please note that on the 10th of March, 2024, the country will transition to summer time. This adjustment involves setting clocks forward by one hour and because of this during routine stops you may face questions from DOT officers. On the 10th of March, whether you are taking a break, driving or awaiting your cycle reset, due to the way eRODS system operates, events that coincide with the moment of setting clocks forward by one hour may display as lasting one hour longer than they actually do.
On the date of the time change, the country will observe a 23-hour day. If you are stopped by DOT officers, to avoid getting a ticket you should bring the officer's attention to the fact that eRODS does not take into account time change. We are going into some details about this in the letter below.
The eRODS system is unable to accurately reflect the time switch because it is not aware of the timezone of each event that is submitted to it. An illustrative example of this problem is shown on a TrackEnsure screen from the previous year, which displays HOS records on the day the time was adjusted for daylight saving.
Due to the data displayed on the TrackEnsure system, we can see that the driver logged 3 hours and 09 minutes of driving time from 12:01 AM to 4:10 AM. The whole amount of driving time during the day was 3 hours 09 minutes.
Here is how eRODS displays the same data:
The driving event that is registered by TrackEnsure ELD is displayed on eRODS with an additional hour between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM, resulting in a total driving time of 4 hours and 09 minutes for the day.
In addition, we want to draw your attention to the next events:
1. Intermediate log at 01:01:11, 03/12/2023;
2. Intermediate log at 03:01:11, 03/12/2023.
Due to the Engine Hours data, we can state that only one hour passed between these two events while on the graph they are displayed with a two-hour gap.
It is important to draw the officer's attention to this information to avoid getting an avoidable ticket.
Thank you, TrackEnsure Team
